Some Specs On The Operations Of The Human Immune System

The immune system is an underrated marvel of specialized tissues, cells and antibodies in addition to what we normally picture as represented by a healthy, chemically-balanced system of organs, glands and tissues in a body with active clean elimination channels.

External to the body, our skin is our first line of defense again toxins, microbes and viruses. Did you know your tears in the eyes and skin perspiration have bacteriocidal properties? Internally, mucous membranes lining the nose, throat and lungs prevent most potentially dangerous microbes from entering. Sticky mucous captures the great majority of germs and viruses, which are ejected when the mucous is eliminated. Most "germs" taken in foods we eat are destroyed by our hydrochloric stomach acid and other pathogens that do manage to enter the bloodstream or lymph are unable to get through most healthy cellular wall membranes.

Supporting the immune system are the four elimination channels (skin, lungs and bronchials, kidneys, bowel) which play a major role in ridding the body of food wastes and metabolic wastes that would otherwise support the growth and multiplication of harmful germs and viruses. The liver detoxifies the blood as a "backup system" for the elimination channels.

Strictly speaking, the immune system is also composed of the lymphatic system which includes organs such as the spleen, tonsils, appendix and some breast tissue, thymus gland, the Kupfer cells of the liver, and Peyer's patches in the small intestine. The lymph system produces several types of specialized cells capable of destroying bacteria and unwanted foreign matter, white blood cells called by such interesting names as polymorpholeucocytes, phagocytes, B-cells and T-cells.

Kupfer cells, lining the spaces of the liver, consume bacteria from filtered blood and the cells of the Peyer's patches, in the small intestine, operate in a similar way, preventing destructive bacteria from attacking the intestinal wall. Unique cells in the spleen destroy old blood cells. Isn't it interesting that modern medical science usually ends up surgically removing at least one of our immune system organs in our lifetimes? Do you still have your tonsils? How about your appendix? And if you're really privileged you may even have had your thymus or spleen glands removed for the good of the cause.

The lymphatic system has thousands of miles of lymph vessels in the body, paralleling the blood circulatory system. Along these lymph vessels are found nodes ranging in size from a pinhead to a pencil eraser, and clusters of these nodes are found in the groin, armpits and neck. Lymph nodes filter out bacteria and foreign matter from body liquids.

Along comes the specialized white blood cells that circulate in the blood and lymph, destroying undesirable pathogens and toxic waste as they go along. Antibodies and interferon work together to protect the body against viruses, with interferon especially being secreted in cases of viral invasion. Antibodies are proteins whose job is to identify and destroy harmful viruses. In a complex series of actions, which science has yet to understand, special cells first learn to identify the "weak spots" of harmful viruses, and then antibodies are manufactured which are able to track down these viruses, attach themselves directly to them and destroy them.

Now, here's a way you can assist this marvelous immune system: make sure your elimination channels are active and toxic materials are cleaned out as quickly as possible. These toxic materials make a habit of settling in the inherently weak organs and tissues of our bodies, either directly causing underactivity, or inviting infection by viruses or bacteria. The immune system becomes increasingly underactive, leaving the body more and more unprotected against germlife, toxic wastes and various chronic and degenerative diseases.

The strongest natural defense against ANY disease is a clean, rested electrical body, electrically and chemically balanced with proper foods and healthy, active, elimination channels.
