Aside from the popularity of the race, Ireland is also becoming more and more famous for their breeding of thoroughbred horses. In fact, they have Coolmore Stud, the largest throroughbred stud, Red Rum and Best Mate. They also boast of famous trainers including Dermot Weld, Aidan O'Brien and John OXX, and famous jockeys, such as Kieren Fallon, Johnny Murtagh, Tony Mc Coy, Micheal Kinane and Ruby Walsh.
In France, there is the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at the Longchamp Racecourse. This event is held every first Sunday of October and has an international following. Another important race event is the Grand Prix de Paris, also at Longchamp but held every July. Other important races are the Prix de Diane and the Prix du Jockey Club or the French Derby. Both of these events are held at Chantilly Racecourse.
In Italy, there is the national event Palio di Siena. This event is held every July and August every year in Siena. Aside from the race, there is a magnificent pageant which is famous among the tourists. Aside from this major event, other minor horse races are also held in the country.
In Great Britain, horse racing is a very popular sport. It is even considered as the sport of the kings and the nobility because of the fascination and passion of the British monarchy on the sport. The steeplechase is the more famous type of horse racing in the UK. Called the National Hunt racing, their race consists of racing on flat surface on a given distance and with obstacles on the track.
