Make no mistake, a form of regular exercise walking is hard to beat and the easiest to carry out without if you are on a budget. If you want to only apply moderate intensity to your exercise regime, then 30 minutes of walking or other exercise 5 times a week works perfectly. Walking fast can be quite tiring though so it is a good idea to take a break or slow down every so often to relax the muscles and joints.

Although if you are looking for fitness equipment that will maximize your walking efforts, then a treadmill is the obvious choice.
