Recommended Diet For Boxers

Any in sports, having the proper diet is crucial in the athlete's overall health to stay at the peak of his condition. In order for a boxer to fight well, have the sustained energy for long intensive training and have the necessary energy for long bouts in the ring he/she needs the right nutritional diet.

Boxers need to pay particular attention to what they eat. They need to have the right balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Carbohydrates – boxers need to maintain high levels of energy for fights, carbohydrates from natural sources are recommended. Good sources of carbohydrates are fruits, whole-wheat grains, oatmeal, rice, beans and so on. The ideal percentage of the total day's carbohydrate intake should be about forty-five to fifty-five percent.

Protein – are essential in increasing muscle growth and repairing muscle injuries. Good sources of protein are eggs, tuna, chicken, beef and healthy protein drinks. The ideal percentage of the total day's protein intake should be about thirty to forty percent.

Fats – a boxer cannot afford to consume to much fatty foods to avoid necessary weight gain, small amounts of “healthy fats” is essential for the body, Good sources are seafood, flaxseed oil and cod liver oil which are rich in omega fat, The ideal percentage of the total day's essential fat intake should be about fifteen percent.

Water – as expected a boxer will loss a lot of water throughout his training, it is important to replace the water loss by drinking about eight to ten glasses of water a day at minimum
